HIGHLIGHTS

Cooperstown, despite being a baseball mecca, is overall a small farming community. Today, it appeals to history seekers as these influences are celebrated at the Farmer's Museum and the Baseball Hall of Fame.  Explore Howe Caverns, New York's second most-visited natural attraction (Niagara Falls is #1).  Howe Caverns was discovered in 1842 by Schoharie County farmer, Lester Howe, for whom it is named. The caverns, located 156 feet below the earth's surface, are a living, limestone cave carved by an underground river over the course of six million years.  Don't forget the Farmer's Museum!  Explore the rural heritage and and turn back the pages of time to 1845 when you visit the historic working farm. Meet the craftspeople who continue the traditions of the 19th century, learn about the life on the farm firsthand and experience day-to-day routines of rural Americans. Nearby, the Iroquois Museum is a venue for promoting Iroquois art and artists, and a meeting place for all peoples to celebrate Iroquois culture and diversity.  As an anthropological institution, it is enriched by research on archaeology, history, and the common creative spirit of modern artists and craftspeople.
